Gibson Dental

What is the difference between traditional braces and clear aligners?

We are proud to offer both traditional braces and Invisalign in Madison, AL.

Traditional braces require metal brackets and guidewires to straighten your teeth. In contrast, Invisalign relies on clear aligners to do the same.

Traditional Braces

If your dentist approves you for traditional braces, we fix brackets to your teeth and thread them with guidewires. Then, every few weeks, you come into our dental office for an adjustment to keep your teeth moving into their correct positions.

Traditional braces correct moderate to severe:

  • Bite misalignment
  • Crooked and twisted teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

Only your dentist can remove your braces.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign is a more discreet orthodontic system. If you and your dentist decide on Invisalign, we take impressions of your teeth. Then we send our results to the Invisalign lab, where they create your custom aligners. You change your aligners every few weeks to the next in the series and visit your dentist periodically to make sure everything is coming together on schedule.

Invisalign can correct the following mild to moderate:

  • Bite misalignment
  • Crooked and twisted teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

You can remove Invisalign to eat and clean your teeth.
