Gibson Dental

Do tooth fillings hurt?

Getting a tooth filling at Gibson Dental does not hurt! Our dentists are experienced and gentle, and the strong local anesthetics that they use ensure the tooth is numb so you won’t feel any pain during your procedure.

Expert Tooth Fillings in Madison, AL

First, we take an x-ray of the tooth to determine the extent of the cavity. Next, our dentists carefully numb the tooth with an anesthetic that blocks pain sensations. If you want a little more relaxation, we also offer nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” to take the edge off your anxiety.

When our dentists are sure the tooth is numb, they start by removing its decayed portion. Next, they dry the tooth and apply an etching liquid that bonds the filling to the tooth. They carefully place the composite filling material and customize it to match the shape and shade of the tooth.

Call Us if You Think You Have a Cavity

If you think you have a cavity, it’s important to seek dental care promptly. Filling a small cavity is a simple procedure, and waiting too long allows decay to spread and cause significant damage to the tooth. If decay reaches the inside of the tooth, it causes an infection or abscess that would require root canal treatment.

We also offer emergency dentistry in Madison, AL, so if you have a toothache, please call us, and we will get you on the schedule the same day to relieve your pain and provide treatment.
