Dental Crowns and Bridges

Nature designed your teeth to withstand a significant amount of force, but years of wear and tear can take their toll. A tooth can break because of trauma or become compromised by decay or extreme wear from habits like teeth grinding. And all too often, people experience tooth loss.

At Gibson Dental, we offer services like dental crowns and bridges for patients who come to our Madison dental office looking for personalized solutions to restore their smile. Drs. McKenna and Matt Gibson are committed to designing and customizing durable, high-quality crowns and bridges that blend beautifully with your smile.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are commonly referred to as "caps" because we customize them to fit over your entire tooth. A dental crown restores the tooth's appearance, allows you to use it again to chew, and also protects the compromised tooth by absorbing chewing forces.

How Are Dental Crowns Used?

Crowns are versatile, and our dentists commonly recommend them to:

  • Restore a tooth with a cavity that's too large for a filling
  • Strengthen a broken, fractured, or severely worn tooth
  • Restore a tooth that already has multiple fillings
  • Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Restore form and function to a dental implant
  • Anchor a dental bridge that replaces missing teeth
  • Conceal a badly stained or discolored tooth

Getting a dental crown typically requires two visits to Gibson Dental spaced two to three weeks apart. During the first, we will prepare your tooth and take impressions.

We use a top-quality local dental lab that fabricates our restorations, and we can even send you to the lab for custom shade matches if necessary. Our dentists also use photography to communicate the shade, shape, and character of teeth to our lab technician so that he can make the most natural-looking restorations possible.

Have Missing Teeth? Ask Us about Dental Bridges

Tooth loss is more common than you might think and can happen to anyone at any age. You have several options today for tooth replacement, including modern dental implants. But dental bridges continue to be an excellent solution for many people who want to replace missing teeth.

A dental bridge replaces one or two missing teeth in the same area of your mouth. Designed as a unit, a bridge consists of an artificial tooth called a pontic that sits in the open space. The pontic is held securely in place by crowns attached to healthy adjacent teeth.

The process for getting a bridge is the same as it is for getting a dental crown, and we can usually complete it in two to three visits.
